Local MP brings together interested parties to find solution over Sedbergh Medical Practice2.45.00pm GMT Tue 16th Dec 2008 Following the refusal of planning permission for a new health centre in Sedbergh, Tim Farron MP has called a meeting with affected local parties to find a long term solution for the future of Sedbergh Medical Practice The plans put forward by the practice proposed a new health centre (with double the capacity of the current site at Loftus Hill) at the town's old auction mart. The proposals also included a Spar convenience store that would be located at the same site. However, planning permission was refused by the Yorkshire Dales Park Authority following a number of objections. The objections were principally concerned with the relocation of the existing Spar shop on Sedbergh Main Street. Commenting, Mr Farron said: "It is clear that there is a need for an improved Medical Practice in Sedbergh, but there are disagreements about important concerns, especially that removing Spar from the town centre might undermine the viability of Sedbergh. "It is very important that we find a solution that is acceptable to the whole community. I am delighted that my discussions this week with the Medical Practice, the National Park and local Parish Council have been constructive. "I feel strongly that if we work together we can find a long-term solution that everyone will be enthusiastic about. The aim of the meeting is to find a way forward that we can all agree on."
