Vince Cable to join Tim Farron in fight to save Post Offices

10.17.36am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 10th Apr 2008

This Friday, Vince Cable MP, Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader and Shadow Chancellor, will be visiting Beetham Post Office from around 9.30am with Tim Farron and a group of children from local schools to show how strong support is for the Post Office.

The visit is part of Mr Farron's wider campaign to prevent the closure of Leven Valley and Greenodd Post Offices as well, which has been running for a number of months. In addition to the meeting, Mr Cable will be having dinner and speaking with local Liberal Democrat members.

Speaking ahead of the visit, Tim Farron MP said:

"I think that it's fantastic that such a high-profile member of the Liberal Democrats is joining the fight to help save our post offices - it shows just how highly we value post offices, and hopefully will pressure Post Office Ltd into taking action.

"I am sure our local members will be looking forward to meeting Vince, and learning from his experience. Hopefully with his help we can save more Post Offices, and stop Labour's continued neglect of rural Britain."
