Farron slams overseas Premier League plans3.00.00pm GMT Wed 13th Feb 2008 Local MP Tim Farron has today tabled a Commons Motion criticising the recently published plans from the Premier League for one extra game per club to be played abroad in the 2010-11 season. Mr Farron sees the commercially driven plans as a slap in the face for loyal season ticket holders who would not be able to afford the long distance trip to such far flung destinations as Hong Kong and Shanghai. Mr Farron also used the Motion to question the wisdom of adding an additional fixture in the already packed January fixture list, at a time when many international coaches are already criticising the congested nature of the Premier League fixture list. Tim Farron said: "I realise that the Premier League is a commercial venture which needs to make profit, but the fans are the heart and soul of football and it is they who will suffer should these plans be put into action. "The Premier League is a fantastic brand, recognised the world over as one of the very best leagues. However, that does not mean ordinary fans who watch their side week in week out should be treated like this."
