Local MP praises threatened school's Ofsted results

3.00.00pm GMT Mon 4th Feb 2008

Local MP Tim Farron has today praised the staff and pupils at Baliol School after Ofsted gave them a glowing report. The school, which caters for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties has been threatened with closure by North Yorkshire County Council.

The Ofsted report praised in particular the excellent leadership at the school, as well as the attention paid to the well-being of the pupils. The report also mentioned that the school represents excellent value for money for the local authority.

Tim Farron said:

"I am hardly surprised by the glowing terms in which Baliol School was described by Ofsted, I have seen first hand the excellent work being done there.

"I certainly hope that North Yorkshire County Council takes this report on board and removes the threat of closure hanging over the school. The report remarked how much value for money Baliol represents, it would be ludicrous for NYCC to press ahead with plans to close now."
