Tim Farron - action not just words for the South Lakes

Post office campaign update - local residents take up the challenge

3.00.00pm GMT Tue 4th Dec 2007

Local MP Tim Farron has received more than 250 letters and close to a thousand people have already signed petitions against the Government's decision to put 43 local post offices under threat of closure. Tim's campaign against the closures has only been running for a matter of weeks and the response has been overwhelming.

There have been responses from communities across South Lakeland with particularly large numbers of letters in support of the local post offices in Kents Bank, Hawkshead, Natland, Beetham, Sedbergh, Dent, Allithwaite, Storth and Arnside.

Tim Farron said:

"I am delighted that so many people have taken the time to respond, but I am not in the slightest bit surprised. Everyone sees their local post office as vital, for some people it is a lifeline. I will continue to do everything in my power to stop these closures, and the more people who respond to the surveys or petitions the better!"
