Local MP launches last-ditch attempt to save Cross-Country service3.00.00pm GMT Tue 20th Nov 2007 Local MP Tim Farron has today tabled a parliamentary motion in an attempt to persuade the Government to re-examine the case for Cross-Country rail services. The Cross-Country franchise will change hands this month and direct services from the North West and Scotland to the South Coast will be removed, and passengers face the prospect of having to change trains during their journey, most likely at Birmingham New Street station. Tim Farron said: "This will have a big impact on people travelling from my constituency to the south, and could damage links between the regions. People who are travelling to the Lake District are likely to be carrying big bags, and changing trains is a real inconvenience, especially at a station like Birmingham New Street. "I hope the Government will take note of my motion and the potential nuisance this will cause to thousands of passengers."
