The tourism industry is vital to the local economy in the Yorkshire Dales

Local MP Tim Farron is seeking a meeting with the Secretary of State for Transport to press the case for signs to the Yorkshire Dales at junction 37 of the M6 in the same way that signs have been provided to the Lake District at junction 36. His campaign has the support of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority.

Mr Farron said: "I have recently met with a number of people involved in the tourism industry in Sedbergh and Dent, and it is clear that they would appreciate the support that extra signs for the Yorkshire Dales would provide.

"Unfortunately, the Highways Agency has so far been unwilling to help. However, our local tourism industry is so important that I'm taking the issue to the Secretary of State."
