MP raises threat to Westmorland General heart unit in House of Commons debate6.23.38pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 9th May 2006 Local MP Tim Farron raised the threat to the Westmorland General Hospital's heart unit in a debate on the floor of the House of Commons this afternoon. Tim used the debate on health to point out that while up to £30 billion is being wasted on the excessive and unfinished 'Connecting for Health' computer system, the Coronary Care Unit at the Westmorland General is under threat because the Hospitals Trust is being forced to seek cuts. Speaking after the debate, Tim said: "The Government is spending up to £30 billion on an overblown and unnecessary computer system, while our Hospitals Trust is threatening to scrap emergency admissions - including our heart unit - for the sake of a few hundred thousand pounds."
