MP Tim Farron is backing a bid for local schools to undertake projects that will look at finding ways to respond positively to climate change

South Lakeland MP Tim Farron and Kendal's Mayor Geoff Cook are backing a bid for local schools to undertake projects that will look at finding ways to respond positively to climate change. Tim and Geoff launched the bid at Ghyllside Primary School in Kendal last Thursday. If the bid is successful, our area could become England's flagship area for sustainability conscious schools.

Tim commented: "This is an excellent bid and I hope it is successful in gaining funding from DEFRA. It is vitally important for future generations that we start acting now to tackle climate change and to do so we need to understand the impact we have on the environment and find ways to make that impact more positive".

Many schools in the Kendal area will be participating in this project to work out their school's Carbon Footprint, identify areas for change and carry these out with the ultimate aim of reducing their Footprint. If the bid is successful, the project will be of lasting significance through the use of each year's figures as a benchmark for measured progress.
